About Us

Built from the ground up.
Four decades in the industry.

We are not consultants who learned waste management from a textbook. Every member of the Recycling Training Services team has worked on the ground — managing sites, handling permits, dealing with the Environment Agency, and keeping operations running under pressure. That experience is what we bring to your site when you need us.

Roger Hudspith — Managing Director

A career built in the industry — not on the sidelines

Roger did not arrive at Waste Management via a boardroom. He started where most people wouldn’t — scrapping cars — and worked his way up through some of the biggest names in UK waste over four decades. That journey gave him something no qualification alone can: a real understanding of what site managers face day-to-day and exactly what the Environment Agency expects of them.

“I have worked in this industry since 1980. I know what it feels like to be the person responsible for keeping a site compliant. That is why I built a service I would have wanted myself.”

1980

Operations Manager — Wimpey Waste Management (now Biffa)

Roger’s first senior operations role, managing a landfill site, waste collections, and a sales team in Stoke-on-Trent. This is where the foundations were laid.

1990’s

Operations Manager — Cleanaway (now Veolia) & Biffa Waste Services

Senior operational roles across two of the UK’s largest waste management companies, gaining deep expertise in large-scale site management and compliance.

2003

WAMITAB Level 4 Hazardous qualification

When WAMITAB was introduced, Roger completed his full 12-unit Hazardous qualification — one of the most demanding in the sector — with North West training providers Envirolead Limited and Oaktree Environmental

2003

Founded Recycling Training Services

Armed with his qualifications and decades of operational experience, Roger launched RTS to provide the kind of expert, reliable COTC cover he knew the industry was missing.

TODAY

Nationwide TCM cover & mentoring

RTS now covers waste sites across England and Wales — from skip hire yards and scrap metal processors to clinical waste facilities and hazardous landfill — while mentoring site managers through their own WAMITAB qualifications.

We do not just cover your site — we make it better

When we provide COTC cover, we do not simply turn up and tick a box. Every visit includes a written daily report for your records, a review of your site’s compliance position, and informal mentoring of your team. Our goal is that by the time your permanent TCM returns — or your own managers complete their WAMITAB qualifications — your site is in a stronger position than when we arrived.
We have worked with councils, NHS hospitals, Network Rail, blue-chip retailers, and privately-owned waste businesses. Whatever the size or complexity of your operation, we adapt to fit.

Trusted by councils, hospitals, and household names

  • Local councils across the UK
  • NHS hospitals & clinical facilities
  • Network Rail
  • IKEA & Tesco
  • Renewi (East London MRF)
  • Axion Consulting / Recovinyl
  • Skip hire & waste SMEs
  • Scrap & ELV processors

Accredited across the full range of permit types

Roger holds WAMITAB accreditations in Transfer Treatment, Hazardous Landfill, End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV), Anaerobic Digestion, and Clinical Waste. The wider RTS team brings additional accreditations across non-hazardous and commercial waste sectors, meaning we can provide qualified cover for virtually any permitted waste site in England and Wales.

We work closely with WAMITAB-registered training providers QSP Training Limited and Oaktree Environmental Limited, and our team holds current Assessor Certificates — so when we mentor your managers, it counts toward their qualification portfolio.
